 Music Therapy Groups! Minimize

ASA Berks is pleased to be offering music therapy groups again!

*If you are interested and would like to be considered for one of the openings, please read all of the information below and follow the instructions for signing up.

*We ask that you sign up only if you are committed to attending.  In the past we have had some families who have signed up and then did not follow through with coming.  This is really not fair to others who were put on a waiting list.

Details....

The music therapy groups are for children on the autism spectrum.  You must live in or attend a school in Berks County to be eligible.

Music therapist: Cindy Long

Place: ASA Berks office space located within Keller Williams Realty building at 5001 Perkiomen Avenue (Rt. 422) in Exeter Township

Dates: The sessions will be on Friday evenings for 8 weeks.

The dates are: Feb. 19 & 26, March 5, 12, 19, 26, and April 9 & 16.
(We are skipping April 2nd)

Times:  The sessions will be 30 minutes each week.  The groups will start at 5:30, 6:05, and 6:40. (We may add a fourth group at 7:10 if needed to accommodate everyone.)  Unfortunately, you will not be able to choose which session time you attend.  You will be assigned a time based upon which group Cindy feels is most appropriate for your child.

In order to ensure the success of all children in these groups, we are requiring that a parent or tss stay with the child during the sessions.

We are also interested in having a few typical peers join the groups for role modeling. (The number of siblings will depend on space available.)  If your child has a sibling that would like to attend, please let us know.

We will do our best to accommodate all who reply; however, please remember that space is limited.

Please email by 2/10/2010 if you are interested at
info@autismsocietyofberks.org  with Music Therapy in the subject line.
Include your child’s
•    Name
•    Age
•    School district
•    Tell us a little bit about your child (verbal/non-verbal, able to imitate/follow directions, the type of classroom that they are in).  This will enable Cindy to try to put children together in the appropriate group.
*Unless Cindy knows your child extremely well, you MUST include the above information in your email.

We will contact you by email AFTER we have gotten all of the responses and grouped the children together to give you the time of your session.  Emails will be sent out at that time (probably around 2/13 or 2/14).  Please check your email and reply to confirm that you will be attending.

There is no charge for participating in this group!  ASA Berks sponsors these groups with funds raised from the Walk for Autism Awareness!
